Clicks per second by technique

TechniqueTypical rangeNotes
Normal clicking5–7 CPSOne finger moving from the knuckle
Fast normal clicking7–10 CPSLight contact, wrist resting, near the single-finger limit
Jitter clicking10–14 CPSForearm tension producing a controlled tremor; fades fast
Butterfly clicking15–25 CPSTwo fingers alternating on one button; holds up over long tests
Drag clicking25+ CPSFriction across the button; banned on most competitive servers

Ranges are the figures the Minecraft PvP community consistently reports and moderates against; the 6.95 CPS ten-second mean comes from arealme’s 37M+ recorded tests.

Technique ceilings are community measurements rather than laboratory ones, and they depend heavily on the mouse switch.

Why your device matters

How we will replace these numbers

The bands above come from other people’s published datasets, named under each table. They are the honest option while this site is new: quoting a percentile from a handful of our own samples would be worse than quoting someone else’s from millions.

Once a test holds more than a thousand clean samples of its own, the percentile switches to our data and starts showing the sample size next to it. Runs that lost focus or looked automated never enter that pool — see how we measure.

Questions

What is the average cps test score?

The median is 6.9 clicks / sec. Half of players score better than that and half score worse.

What is a good CPS score?

The median 10-second score is about 6.9 clicks per second. Above 8 CPS puts you in the top 30%, above 9 in the top 15%, and above 11 in the top 5%. Sustained scores above 14 CPS usually involve jitter or butterfly clicking rather than normal clicking.

How do I click faster?

For normal clicking, rest your wrist and use only the finger, keep contact light so the switch actuates without bottoming out, and use a mouse with a low actuation force. Beyond about 8 CPS, further gains come from technique — jitter or butterfly clicking — rather than from practice.

Is 10 CPS good for Minecraft?

It is well above average, and it matters less than people think. Since Java Edition 1.9 a sword has an attack speed of 1.6 per second and damage scales with the cooldown, so clicking faster than that actively reduces your damage. Clicking speed only decides fights in 1.8-style combat, which is what most PvP servers still run.
