What this measures
Five seconds is the most-shared duration for this test, because it is short enough to record and long enough to be a real result. It is the length most of the TikTok challenges use.
Watch the per-second bars afterwards. A flat chart means your technique is the limit; a falling one means your thumbs are.
If you are chasing a leaderboard number, this is usually where your best presses-per-second figure will come from.

Questions
What is a good 5 second spacebar score?
Roughly 32 presses, or 6.4 per second, is average. Above 50 presses puts you in the top few percent.
What is a good spacebar score?
Around 6.3 presses per second is average. Above 8.5 puts you in the top 15% and above 10 in the top 5%, which usually requires alternating both thumbs.
Does holding the space bar count?
No. Key repeat is ignored, so a held bar counts as a single press. Anything else would make the score meaningless.
How do I hit the space bar faster?
Alternate both thumbs rather than hammering with one, keep the presses shallow so the switch actuates without bottoming out, and rest your palms so only the thumbs move.
Does my keyboard affect the score?
Yes. Membrane keyboards debounce for several milliseconds and can drop presses at high speed, while mechanical boards with fast polling register everything. A difference of one or two presses per second between boards is normal.
