Keyboard60 second test

A minute of space bar is a stamina event, and pacing beats sprinting. People who settle into a rate they can hold usually finish with a higher total than people who go flat out for the first ten seconds.

The sixty bars at the end make a genuinely detailed fatigue curve, including the small recoveries when you switch which thumb leads.

Stop if your thumb starts to ache. The score is not worth a tendon.

Bands follow the spacebar figures published by spacebarcounter.io, whose reported average sits at 6.27 presses per second.

What is a good 60 second spacebar score?

Around 350 presses, or just under 6 per second, is a strong minute. Most people finish well below their ten-second rate.

What is a good spacebar score?

Around 6.3 presses per second is average. Above 8.5 puts you in the top 15% and above 10 in the top 5%, which usually requires alternating both thumbs.

Does holding the space bar count?

No. Key repeat is ignored, so a held bar counts as a single press. Anything else would make the score meaningless.

How do I hit the space bar faster?

Alternate both thumbs rather than hammering with one, keep the presses shallow so the switch actuates without bottoming out, and rest your palms so only the thumbs move.

Does my keyboard affect the score?

Yes. Membrane keyboards debounce for several milliseconds and can drop presses at high speed, while mechanical boards with fast polling register everything. A difference of one or two presses per second between boards is normal.
